Despite assurances made by senior railway officials, the restoration work on platform no.3 at Churchgate station remains incomplete. It has been close to 24 hours since a Churchgate-Virar bound local train overshot its course and came crashing into the platform. Although more than 200 people have been engaged in the removal of the rake since Sunday night, the work is not completed, said a senior officer from the Western Railway.
Union Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu ordered a probe into the incident and promised to take immediate action. According to a senior, the Western Railway formed a committee to investigate the accident and file a report within 8 days.
Train services on platform no.1 and 4 are unaffected due to the work on platform no. 1.
On Sunday morning, a Mumbai local jumped signal and crashed intot the platform at 30 kmph, injuring fiver on board. The loco pilot was immediately suspended from duty.
