Kalu Singh, 47, was alone in his shop the day when the man, woman and child visited. A police officer said the incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed and the accused trio were clearly seen in the CCTV footage walking outside Ambika jewellery shop, the shop owned by the victim.

Singh was arranging gold jewellery sets in a showcase, when the man stabbed the jeweller with a knife in the abdomen. After the incident, the trio fled in a car. The incident was found out when the jeweller walked out grievously injured, a police officer said. He was then sent to hospital where he was recuperating and unconscious.

Waliv police claimed that as per preliminary investigation, the accused did not flee with gold ornaments, so it was unclear if the accused’s intention to stab Kalu was a robbery attempt or an act of revenge.

Police said the victim’s statement will be recorded once his condition was stable. Several police teams were formed to nab the accused. A local crime branch was also conducting an investigation.
