After AIDS,the girl child and education, head injuries have captured the imagination of Indias causerati more specifically, the Indian Head Injury Foundation. A fundraiser,The Royal Rajasthan Gala 2010,was organised at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower in Mumbai on Friday evening,to raise money and awareness about the organisation. The hosts,Maharaja Gajsingh II of Marwar-Jodhpur and Maharani Hemlata Rajye displayed some classic Indian hospitality as they organised a full-scale reception with dancers from Jodhpur. Guests were plied with authentic handicraft from Rajasthan, even as they were serenaded by the devotional melodies of folk artistes. Attendees included Master of Ceremonies Kabir Bedi, who was accompanied by Parveen Dusanj,Adi Godrej and daughter Tanya Dubash,HDFC head honcho Deepak Parekh,Ajay Piramal,Shobhaa and Dilip De and Rashmi Uday Singh. Also seen were Liz Hurley, resplendent in a Cavalli gown, and husband Arun Nayyar, who couldve been mistaken for a fashionable waiter in his black tux.
Showstopper Liz distracted from the issue of head injuries,as everyone nearly strained their necks to catch a look of her in a sultry turquoise gown.
IN B-Town it takes more than the presence of stars to make an event memorable. First,it requires the right mix star power. But thats not of much use without those rare moments, when distanced hearts meet like long lost friends, just the way Jaya Bachchan and Rekha did,or when the Mangeshkar siblings,Lata,Meena,Usha and Asha Bhosle, put in a joint appearance. To complete the razzmatazz,of course, excited shutter bugs and pretty people are other imperatives. Bollywood royalty like Hema Malini and Kajol, with a cute baby bump, paraded down the J.W Marriot Hotel on Friday evening to attend the the glittering launch of veteran photographer Gautam Rajadhyakshas Marathi coffee table book Chehare. An ace photographer for four decades,Gautam has clicked generations of Bollywood stars, industrialist and sport stars. Another surprise of the evening was Sooraj Barjatya. Indeed, socialising seems the Bollywood flavour of the season. Padmini Kolhapure,Satish Kaushik,Mickey Mehta and Vijaya Mehta were also spotted at the do.
Bummer As Rekha and Jaya exchanged pleasantries,we missed Amitabh Bachchan, whose presence was expected. It could have been another Silsila moment.
