Chargesheet filed against five accused

3 of them are also chargesheeted in the photojournalist’s gangrape case

The city police’s Crime Branch Tuesday filed a 365-page chargesheet before the Esplanade Court against five people who had allegedly raped a 19-year-old telephone operator in the Shakti Mills compound at Mahalaxmi on July 31 this year.

Three of the five accused in the case have also been chargesheeted for the August 22 gangrape of a photojournalist inside the abandoned Shakti Mills compound.

The July 31 gangrape victim had approached the police only after the August 22 gangrape was reported in the media. In her statement, she spoke of how the rapists had threatened to kill her and her boyfriend if they raised an alarm and had asked them to “cooperate”. Mocking the victim, one of the accused allegedly boasted of his love affairs and how he had slit his wrists for his love in the past. The slash mark on his wrist is part of the evidence mentioned in the chargesheet. In the chargesheet, the victim speaks of her fear that made her and her boyfriend travel to Chhattisgarh and seek medical help following the attack.

The victim, who was passing by Shakti Mills with her boyfriend, halted there for sometime after she injured her leg. Two of the accused then assaulted them. While the victim’s boyfriend was beaten up and dragged to another corner in the compound with his hands tied up,the victim was raped in turns by five accused, including a minor.
