Celebrate the Odd Couple

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Elysee Treaty (1963) that brought to an end centuries of animosity between Germany and France.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Elysee Treaty (1963) that brought to an end centuries of animosity between Germany and France. To commemorate the same,the French and the German consulates in India have brought to the city a seven-day festival. A collaboration with Alliance Francaise and Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan,aims at celebrating the joint initiatives and achievements of the two countries,their languages and cultures.

The festival was inaugurated on July 2 with an exhibition,titled “Germany and France – Half century of friendship and cooperation”,held at the Max Mueller Bhavan Gallery,Kala Ghoda,that explored the relationship between the two countries,providing historical and political backgrounds and highlighting the current collaborative projects in the fields of art,music and education. The exhibition will be on display till

July 9,when the festival concludes. Apart from workshops,exhibition tour and educational seminars,and French and German language classes,the event also includes segments for movie fans and linguists alike. As part of ‘Attelier Highlights’,there will be screening of short films by students from the famous film academies of Baden-Württemberg (Germany) and La Femis (France).
