Bickering members protest on certain demands after franchise allowed to use club house
Though Cricket Club of India has officially agreed to become the home of Mumbai Indians during the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, some of the members have protested the decision of the club.
The earlier talks between CCI executive members and Mumbai Indians had ended on a bad note with club members refusing to allow the franchise to use their club house. In another open house held on Wednesday evening, the CCI executive committee gave a green signal to hold IPL matches. Which means all of Mumbai Indians’ seven matches would be held now at CCI including five under floodlights.
However,Robin Jaisinghani,a member of CCI has alleged that the decision is against the clubs policy. He says,We have sent a letter to the executive committee. The open house to decide if IPL should be allowed at Brabourne took place in the evening, even dates and venue were already decided by the committee. Everyone including the organizer, media and security personnel knew about it. Such things are against the consitituion and none of the members were even informed, objected Jasinghani.
Further adding,Such important decisions to use the ground cannot be decided in an open house.
However,CCI chief executive officer Kamaljeet Rajpal said that the decision has been taken and if any one has any objection then he can move court.
We have received one protest so far,the committee has taken its decision and if anybody is not happy with it,he/she can move to the court, Rajpal said.
Meanwhile,in the 25,000 capacity of Brabourne Stadium,Mumbai Indians had proposed 700 seats at the club house for its guest while 1500 to be allotted for its club members.
Further, the childrens stand with 600 seats, which otherwise is used by children of club members adjoining the club house seats, will also be reserved for the Mumbai Indians. In return for these reserved seats, club members will be compensated with 1,929 seats in the West Stand, where the members spouses will have to pay.
The offer from the Mumbai Indians who will pay Rs 15 lakh per match hosted is valid for two years with an option of extending it for two years.
Brabourne Stadium didnt host any games of IPL during the inaugural season. Mumbai Indians had earlier wished to host their IPL matches at Brabourne Stadium but dispute with members of club result in them choosing DY Patil Stadium. The last time Brabourne hosted a game was India vs Australia Twenty20 match back in October 2007.
