(Representational Image)The Marine Drive police on Wednesday registered a case against an unknown person for allegedly forging and fabricating the letter head of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and publishing a fake candidate list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
According to police, the forged letter declared Prakash Krushna Nikam as BJP’s candidate from Palghar constituency.
The case was registered on the complaint of Advocate Akhilesh Choubey, who is working as BJP’s Maharashtra State Code of Conduct and Legal Head.
In his complaint to police, Choubey alleged that at around 11pm on Monday, he received a picture on WhatsApp. It was a BJP letter and it had appointed Prakash Krushna Nikam as their candidate from Palghar. It was also undersigned by Arun Singh, national general secretary and incharge of the BJP headquarters.
“Choubey sensed something amiss after which he cross-checked the authenticity of the letter, when he came to know that it was forged after which he reported the matter at the police station and a case was registered,” said a police officer.
