Earlier this year,e-commerce website Flipkart launched Flyte,a store for downloadable digital content. Over a million songs in languages such as English,Hindi,Telugu,Punjabi,Oriya,Assamese,Spanish and Italian became available for download in MP3 format, with single songs available for as low as Rs 6 and albums at Rs 25. However, even in this wide variety, there seemed to be one glaring omission; independent Indian artistes who have been attracting the attention the world over, were still underrepresented.
That, however, changed yesterday as Nh7.in a platform for independent artistes partnered with Flipkart to launch a section on the latters music store, dedicated exclusively to independent music. Nh7.in on Flyte will bring together the countrys independent artistes across all genres under one platform, and Flipkart has made it easier than searching for the torrent of your favourite neighbourhood artiste, says Vijay Nair,CEO,Only Much Louder, the parent company of Nh7.in.
Both the store on Flipkart and Nh7.in will actively promote this music to the ever-growing community of indie fans. While piracy is a big problem for mainstream music, fans of independent music want to support the artistes by buying their music, adds Shreyas Srinivasan,co-founder,Nh7.in.
The store currently has music by 50 artistes including Indian Ocean,Karsh Kale,The Raghu Dixit Project,Dualist Inquiry and Skyharbor, but the numbers will continue to grow. In addition, the artistes featured on the site will be given the freedom to price their own music. To access the store, log on to http://www.nh7.in and locate the store tab.
