Five persons were injured on Tuesday morning after the bus they were travelling in fell off the Lalbaug Flyover.
The police said the private luxury bus was on its way to South Mumbai from Wai in Satara district. Around 3.15 am,while the driver was climbing atop the South-bound carriageway of the flyover,the right wheel of the vehicle hit the divider causing it to swerve towards the flyovers concrete railing and topple off.
The five passengers and driver were rushed to KEM hospital,the police said. The passengers have been identified as Hitesh Bafna (28),Harshad Wadkar (26),Prakash Sanas (48),Lakshman Vhatkar (63) and Sanjay Vhatkar (52). The driver,Mansingh Krishna Salunkhe (50),has been charged under Sections 279 (rash and negligent driving),337 (causing hurt),338 (causing grievous hurt) and 427 (causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Bafna,Wadkar and Sanas were discharged in the afternoon,while Lakshman Vhatkar and Sanjay Vhatkar have been kept under observation, said Ashok Ugle,Assistant Police Inspector of Bhoiwada police station.
