Ravindra was booked after the police raided the house of one Anand Porrem in Dhodepalli village following a tip-off.
Deer meat was recovered from Porrem’s house and during his interrogation, he revealed that Ravindra and two more people were involved in the hunting, police said.
“Porrem’s interrogation revealed that Ravindra had shot the deer on March 6. So, we raided his house at Aheri and recovered incriminating material including 20 antelope trophies, three firearms and four airguns. We also found deer fat, blood stains, hair and deer hoof. Ravindra was not at home during the raid but his son Chiteshwar was. We have registered an offence against Ravindra, Porrem and two people he named,” Alapalli Deputy Conservator of Forest Hemant Meena told The Indian Express.
Incidentally, Dharmarao Baba Atram too had been arrested in a Chinkara poaching case in 2008, when he was a minister in the Vilasrao Deshmukh cabinet.
A case is still going on against him at Saswad JMFC court.
“Porrem told us that Ravindra had come to his place along with an accomplice, Prakash Pendam, on March 6 and taken his bullock cart to the forest. There, he killed a Spotted Deer with his gun and the meat was divided into two parts. Ravindra then called another person (yet to be identified) and took away one part with him on a bike. The other part was carried home by Porrem on his cart. He also sold it to two other people, who too have been arrested,” Meena said.
Ravindra was given a notice to appear before investigating officer Ravi Agrawal by Friday afternoon. “He has failed to turn himself in,” Meena said.
Meanwhile, the case against Dharmarao\ continues to drag on. “The defence keeps challenging many things we present as evidence in the higher court, and the case is getting delayed,” said Saswad case IO S G Dhumal.
Ravindra Atram is uncle of and Aheri MLA.
