He was later arrested from his house in Madanpura.
A 30-year-old house break-in accused being taken to J J Hospital for a medical examination Tuesday morning allegedly fled from a police car waiting at a traffic signal in Nagpada. He was, however, arrested the same evening from his house in Madanpura.
Police said Rizwan Abdul Sattar Shaikh was arrested for a house break-in in Mumbra in 2001. He was released on bail later that year but did not attend hearings in Thane Sessions Court after a charge sheet was filed.
Monday, the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him. Since he lives in our jurisdiction,he surrendered before us and was being taken to J J Hospital for a medical examination, said inspector Sudhakar Kamble of Nagpada police station.
When the police car transporting him stopped at the Nagpada Junction traffic signal at 6 am,he seized his chance.
He was in the rear seat of the car. He pushed a constable sitting next to him and began to run. Our men gave a chase but he disappeared into the narrow lanes of Dongri, Kamble said.
Shaikh was later found in his Madanpura home. We arrested him at 5.15 pm and transferred him to Mumbra police custody.
