Brazilian woman arrested at Mumbai airport with cocaine worth Rs 11 crore in stomach

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a Brazilian woman at Mumbai’s international airport for trying to smuggle cocaine worth nearly Rs 11 crore, which was concealed in around 100 capsules ingested in her body.

The DRI said on Sunday that based on specific intelligence that a Brazilian national would be attempting to smuggle narcotics into India, its officials recently intercepted a woman passenger at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where she had arrived from São Paulo.

When questioned, she admitted to ingesting capsules containing narcotic drugs for smuggling them into India, the DRI said in a statement. She was then admitted to a nearby government hospital where, around 100 capsules containing 1,096 g of cocaine, valued at Rs 10.96 crore in the illicit market, were recovered from her body under a doctor’s guidance.
