A Sunday afternoon swim in Marve Beach near Malad turned tragic for an 11-year-old boy while his friend had a narrow escape .

Around 2.30 pm,Karim Siddiqui and his friend went for a swim in the beach. While fishermen residing nearby managed to save one of the boys,search operations are on to trace Siddiqui.

“Search operations are on. His friend was saved by one of the fisherman but we could not identify him as he left the spot,” said the Assistant Commisioner of Police Jaywant Hargude .

Officials at the Kandivali fire station said apart from two lifeguards dispatched to the spot from Aksa Beach,a flood relief team consisting of three firemen and a fire officer has been sent along with a fire engine and ambulance.

The ACP said people are not allowed to swim in the water off Marve. Boards have been put up to warn the public.
