The High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on former Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal’s bail plea till June 8 to allow his lawyers to show the J J Hospital medical board’s report to a private doctor.
Bhujbal had applied for bail on health grounds. Justice Ajay Gadkari had earlier directed the ED to present Bhujbal (69) before a government-constituted medical board of doctors to seek an opinion about his health and submit its report on May 27.
Bhujbal had claimed he had many problems, including diabetes, blood pressure, chronic asthma and heart blockages.
“I must be allowed consultation with doctors to verify the report submitted by the board of doctors of J J Hospital. The report is technical and I require interpretation and guidance,” said senior counsel Amit Desai, appearing for Bhujbal.
Public Prosecutor Purnima Kantharia opposed this, saying no two doctors would have the same opinion and sought disposing of the plea.
The court, however, granted the permission, saying there was no reason to deny Bhujbal the help of experts.
