A bomb threat call, which later turned out to be a hoax,to Sardar Vallabhai Patel High School and Junior College in Kandivli sent the police on a wild goose chase. As per the police, the hoax call came last Friday on the school landline number and the caller had claimed that the bomb placed inside the school would explode on Monday. However, the police with a team of BDDS personnel conducted an intense search for explosive devices on the premises of the school on Friday and Monday.
Senior Police Inspector Surendrakumar Jaiswal of the Kandivali police station said,The school authorities got the call last Friday. On receiving the information from the principal, our men went to the school and conducted a thorough search on the premises of the school. Though no explosives were found,we briefed the school staff about the security measures and steps to be taken in case of emergency. We also decided to deploy police personnel on Monday at the school to keep its premises secure.
The police personnel were deployed from 6 am on Monday at the school. As exams were scheduled for Monday in the school,we decided not to interfere in it and let the students appear for the examination. We had also roped in the school staff to help us secure the premises. They were instructed not to allow anyone, except students and staff, inside the school, said Jaiswal.
However, despite conducting an intense search on the school premises,no bomb was found and examinations went on well as per the schedule. We are now conducting enquiry to trace the identity of the person who made the call. However,it is generally observed that bomb hoax calls to schools are very often during examinations. It may be the handiwork of a student. We are investigating this case keeping this angle in mind too, said an official attached to the investigating team on the condition of anonymity.
