Body in Kurar: Three days on, cops yet to identify victim

On Friday morning, a phone call was made to the police from Pimpri Pada in Malad East informing that the body of a woman without any clothes was found in a secluded part of the forest.

Three days after the body of a woman was found in a Kurar forest, the police are yet to establish her identity. No arrest has been made so far.

“No one has come forward to claim her body,” said Limbanna Vhanmane, Senior Inspector, Kurar police station.

On Friday morning, a phone call was made to the police from Pimpri Pada in Malad East informing that the body of a woman without any clothes was found in a secluded part of the forest. A police sniffer dog then discovered a saree, a blouse, a handkerchief and a pair of slippers belonging to the deceased.

“We have sent the articles for forensic examination. We have also asked the forensic laboratory to analyse a vaginal and anal swab of the deceased to ascertain sexual assault and for any trace of the DNA of the perpetrator,” said M Ramkumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XII).

The police suspect the woman was aged between 25 and 35, and she was not a local resident. Her face bears several cuts and scratches. The police are awaiting a post-mortem report from Borivli’s Bhagwati Hospital.
