The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Thursday demolished a canteen being operated by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainments on the fourth floor of a DLH Park building in Goregaon (West), calling it an “illegal structure”. The civic body had in July issued a notice to the company in this regard.
“The open air canteen was being operated illegally by the Red Chillies Entertainments company from the fourth floor of the DLH Park building located on Swami Vivekanand Road in Goregaon. It was an unauthorised structure and we had already sent a notice to the company in July to clear it. We had no option but to demolish this illegal structure,” said Chanda Jadhav, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of P South ward.
The canteen was built in the terrace area of the floor measuring 2,000 square feet. “Not only was the structure unauthorised, but also the canteen was run illegally,” added Jadhav. The demolition was carried out by 25 BMC workers in the presence of police personnel.
The company, however, claimed it was not an “operational canteen”. “Red Chillies Vfx is a tenant and not the owner of the property mentioned. The building has an open area outside with seating which employees use for eating food that they get from home. It is not an operational canteen. The part which the BMC has demolished are the energy saving solar panels which provide clean energy to the entire Vfx building,” said a statement, adding Red Chillies Vfx would take up the matter with the BMC.
