BEST to increase feeder services to Metro 3 stations

The trial project aims to increase feeder services along the stations of the upcoming Metro line,” said Jagdish Patil, General Manager, BEST.

THE Brihanmumbai Electric Supply Transport (BEST) undertaking will increase feeder services to proposed stations of the Metro 3 between Colaba and Seepz. “We have discussed this with the authorities of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The trial project aims to increase feeder services along the stations of the upcoming Metro line,” said Jagdish Patil, General Manager, BEST.

“More decisions on where and how to increase the services will come after we have received a detailed plan from the MMRDA. As of now, we have given our assent to the MMRDA to start working on it,” Patil added.

The BEST plans to follow a similar model for more metro lines in the future. Increasing services between Dindoshi and Maghatane for Metro Line 7 (Dahisar East -Andheri East) and between Malad, Oshiwara and Goregaon for Metro Line 2 (Dahisar-D N Nagar) are on the cards.

Some BEST committee members called the move unnecessary. “These things will only materialise after 2019. If the state is ready to finance the proposal, it is good. But the BEST should focus on improving matters now. The first step towards this would be reducing the minimum fare to Rs 6, which will immediately invite commuters to this loss-making service,” said Ravi Raja, BEST committee member.
