A technician who was in charge of the BEST Wadala depots customer care department was nabbed red-handed by the Mumbai unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000. Police identified the accused as Santosh Shinde.
ACB officers said the arrest came after a commission agent dealing with setting up new electric meters approached the agency alleging that Shinde had demanded bribe from him.
Another agent from Dharavi had approached the complainant saying he had a lot of work and couldnt tend to three customers who wanted electric meters changed. He asked the complainant to help him. The complainant then got the customers to sign forms and approached Shinde for permission, said an ACB officer, who did not wish to be named.
The officer said the complainant alleged that Shinde demanded a bribe of Rs 2,500 from him. Shinde allegedly told the complainant that if he did not pay,he would note that the complainant had not finished the changing work.
The complainant told us that he had already paid the fee amount at the case counter and what Shinde demanded was not the official fee. He lodged a complaint against Shinde, said the officer.
We told the complainant to set up a meeting on Monday at Shindes Wadala office. He went inside and as soon as Shinde accepted the bribe,he was nabbed. Further investigations are on, said the officer.
