Days after the arrest of 14 persons from what the police called a secret meeting to set up a frontal organisation for SIMI,a group from Saharanpur said on Monday that the organisation named has been in existence for years and should not be connected with SIMI.
The police had said that the frontal organisation being planned at the secret meeting,in Mana village of Akola district, was vaguely named as Wahadat-E-Islam. Now,the Saharanpur-based group said they belong to Wahadat-E-Islam,which is 15 years old.
They alleged that many Muslim organisations were being equated to the banned SIMI. They appealed to the media not to label every Muslim organisation as a SIMI parallel. In a press conference at Patrakar Sangh on Monday, the founder of the organisation,Maulana Ataur Rehman Wajdi, said the organistation was established on December 28,1994 for propagating Islams teachings among the community, with its head office based in Masjid-e-Kamangran Chowk,Uttar Pradesh.
The police said there were 30 persons at the mosque at the time of the meeting. I would like to clarify that there were 150 persons including Muslim locals from Mana. All those who were present had come for a programme called Sohbat-E-Saliheen where scholar Maulana Ratab Ali was preaching verses from the Quran, said Maulana Ataur Rehman Wajdi.
