Interrogation of four arrested accused in the alleged gangrape of a 19-year-old Badlapur resident indicates that while Mamta Nishad, the alleged mastermind who has also been arrested, told them to teach the victim ‘a lesson’,it was the five historysheeters who allegedly decided to rape her.

Last week, police arrested Mamta’s husband Jeetu and three accomplices Vikas Nikam,Rohit Palke and Prasad Rangeele. The four, apart from absconding accused Suraj Kumar, constitute a criminal gang that has a record with Navi Mumbai police.

The 19-year-old victim was allegedly kidnapped from her Badlapur residence and taken to a house in Kharghar on April 19,where she was assaulted and gangraped by four friends of Mamta’s husband Jeetu. Inquiries also revealed that while Jeetu and the victim had an affair, she had severed ties with him after Mamta confronted her. However,Jeetu continued to chase her, which Mamta was against.

Jeetu,Nikam,Palke and Rangeele have robbery, dacoity and assault cases against them with Kalamboli police. Jeetu also has similar cases against him with Thane police.

“Interrogation of Nikam,Palke and Rangeele indicates that when Mamta contacted them, she only told them to teach the victim a lesson to discourage Jeetu from chasing her. The men were not specifically instructed to rape the victim. It was their decision,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dombivli division) Rajan Ghule.
