Referring to the boat mishap in the Arabian Sea on Wednesday and the subsequent cancellation of a programme to mark commencement of work on the Shivaji Memorial, the Shiv Sena on Friday said that bad luck seems to have befallen the state.
In an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana, Shiv Sena said the CM had to announce an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of a Shiv Sangram party worker who drowned on Wednesday.
“The accident happened due to the arrogance of those who felt that others should not be part of the function,” said the editorial, in an apparent dig at the BJP for not inviting the Shiv Sena leaders to attend the programme.
It added that the memorial has been entangled in the controversy since the beginning. “An environment is being created to make it appear that the memorial is being built not by the government but through the funds of the BJP,” said the Sena, adding that MLC Vinayak Mete has made several allegations in his letter about irregularities in the project that should be probed.
“Mete has become the nominal president of the memorial committee, but all the decisions are being taken from the chief minister’s office,” it said. ENS
