A white Bolero jeep that had been allotted to a senior inspector of the Thane Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) was stolen from Samta Nagar on Saturday morning.

The vehicle, belonging to senior inspector Rajan Gule,a resident of Borivali (west),was last used on Friday night by his driver, who after dropping Gule at his house, took the car to his own residence in Julapada near Thakur village in Kandivali (east). It was parked outside his house at 11:30 pm.

On Saturday morning, the driver found the vehicle missing. After realising that the vehicle was stolen, the driver registered a case of theft in the Samta Nagar police station.

When contacted,Senior Police Inspector Shivaji Shinde said,“The driver had filed a complaint of theft with us and we have registered a case against unidentified persons. Since the vehicle did not have any board on it to identify it as a police vehicle, the thief must have stolen it without realising that the vehicle belongs to the police depatment.”

“We have ordered for nakabandi around the entire area as well as routes outside Mumbai. We are also doing a thorough check of papers of similar vehicles,” added Shinde.
