According to the chargesheet filed by the Maharashtra ATS against 24-year-old engineer Anees Ansari who is accused of planning an attack on an American school in suburban Mumbai, Ansari was seeking ‘revenge against the USA’ for the country’s assistance to nations combating the Islamic State (IS).
The agency has booked Ansari under Sections 43 (Penalty and compensation for damage to computer, computer system), 66(A)(Punishment for sending offensive messages through communication service), 66 (f)( cyber terrorism) of the Information Technology Act and sections 115 (abetment of offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life-if offence not committed) read with 302 (murder) of the IPC.
The agency has claimed that Ansari had “planned the conspiracy” with his Facebook friend Omar Elhaji, who is arraigned as a wanted accused in the case. “The wanted accused encouraged Ansari in his intentions and in this way, both the accused supported each other. This establishes an offence under sections 115 along with 120(b)(conspiracy) of the IPC,” the chargesheet says.
Terming Ansari “jihadi-minded”, the ATS claimed that Ansari wanted to attack the American school in BKC.
The Sewri court on Thursday transferred the case to the sessions court. The trial is scheduled to begin on January 27.
