FORMER Mumbai Police Commissioner Julio Ribeiro has filed a public interest litigation in Bombay High Court seeking its intervention in the case of assault on assistant police inspector Sachin Suryavanshi by a group of MLAs inside Vidhan Bhavan in March.
Ribeiro has demanded that the case be investigated by the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The case is at present being probed by Mumbai Police Crime Branch. He has also demanded that CCTV footage of the incident be made public.
Petitions in this regard have also been filed by activist Hemant Patil and former journalist Ketan Tirodkar. The petition filed by Tirodkar seeks transfer of the case to CBI. Patils plea seeks the quashing of a privilege motion against two TV news channels that reported the incident.
Ribeiros petition has now been tagged along with Tirodkars petition and has been placed for hearing in June.
