A witness in the murder of matka king Suresh Bhagat turned hostile on Wednesday before the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court. Rahul Raje Dravid retracted from his earlier statement,which gave details on the alleged contract killing,according to which a truck driver was paid to run over the car in which Bhagat was travelling. However,special public prosecutor Kalpana Chavan claimed this would not hurt the case as a key accused,Kiran Pujari,has turned approver.

Encroachment on school: NGO moves Bombay HC

An NGO that adopted a BMC school in Oshiwara has moved the Bombay High Court seeking action against alleged illegal encroachment on the school playground. Social worker and secretary of NGO CHIP (Supporting Child in Progress) Kunickaa Lall,in a petition filed through her lawyer Pradeep Havnur,said her organisation had adopted a BMC school in Pratiksha Nagar in 2004. Lall wanted to expand the school upto Class X. However,she stated,the land reserved for the playground had been encroached upon by a trust citing religious reasons.

Three bag-lifters arrested in Thane,Mulund

Three persons were arrested by Unit 7 of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Sunday in connection with bag-lifting in Thane and Mulund. Police said Silvan Pillai (32),Shankar Krishnan (27) and his brother Hari Krishnan (29) would steal bags from parked cars after telling the driver that he had dropped his money.
