The former Asian Champion Alok Kumar will take on former World Champion Ashok Shandilya in the semifinals of the Maharaja Pratapsinh Coronation Gymkhana National Invitational Billiards and Snooker tournament as both of them won their respective matches here today. In best of five games (150+) quarterfinal,Alok had to fight hard to get the better of India No. 6 Parikh,while Mumbai’s Ashok knocked out Sourav Kothari (ONGC) of Kolkata.
Parikh showing his guts since the first game by crafting a break of 130 points sent a strong signal to Alok.
Alok,on his part,played a tight and safe game and managed win the next game to level the match 1-all. In the third game,Parikh tried to make a comeback and crafted 64 points break,but he ended up giving an opportunity to Alok that he converted into a win and advanced 2-1.
In the fourth game both the players kept the strings tight but it was Alok who stepped ahead and sealed the match 3-1. In the other quarterfinal,Ashok was in commanding form since the start of first game. His two breaks of 70+ in first and third games were enough to end the Billiards journey for Sourav in this event. In another quarterfinal match,Rupesh Shah (ONGC) of Ahmedabad set a new high break of the championship by crafting a billiards break of 147 in the third game,outplaying Arun Agrawal of Mumbai 3-0 to move into semifinals.
Rupesh,prior to this,got a tough fight from Arun. Arun was producing breaks over break in every game,but was falling short to reach the finish line. His 65,55 and 72 points breaks failed to help him getting any game win. On the other side,Rupesh precisely converting all the opportunity he was getting and moved into semis.
