Mumbai BJP chief Amit Satam on Wednesday said that the alliance between Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena UBT and Raj Thackeray’s MNS will not affect the ruling Mahayuti in the upcoming local body elections.

Speaking at the “Lok Satta Lok Samvad” programme, Satam claimed that the mayor for Mumbai will be from the BJP-led coalition after the elections to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

“The family meetings and dinners of Shiv Sena party chief Uddhav and Raj Thackeray in the last few months were a sham. The Thackeray brothers coming together will not have any impact on the Mahayuti. Even if the Thackeray brothers come together for the darshan of Ganpati at home, Deepotsav, Bhaubij and other ceremonies, what does it have to do with Mumbaikars? It is important who and how will provide Mumbaikars with their drinking water, good quality roads, hospitals, schools, gardens, playgrounds etc,” said Satam.

He also challenged Uddhav to show projects done for Mumbaikars important decisions taken during the last 25 years in power. “Due to the municipal elections, the Thackeray brothers are coming together for domestic programs and festivals. I can assure you that the same Thackeray brothers will not come together for Ganeshotsav, Deepotsav, Bhaubij next year,” Satam alleged.

Further targeting Uddhav, he alleged, “Uddhav Thackeray committed corruption worth around Rs 3 lakh crore during his 25-year tenure in the civic body. On the contrary, the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have done many infrastructure projects in Mumbai in the last 10-11 years and taken decisions in the interest of the Marathi people,” he said.

When asked about BJP being in alliance with Uddhav in the BMC earlier, Satam said that the decision-making process and tender approval were done by the mayor, standing committee chairman and the BJP never had these posts as Sena had the majority.

“Although some of those leaders are now with Shinde, the remote control of power in the municipal corporation was with Uddhav Thackeray and work was done on his orders,” he alleged.

The BJP city chief added that Islamic fundamentalists have tried to change the color of some cities in the world. “There is a conspiracy to make Mumbai green and Pakistani flags were put up in the campaign of candidates of some parties, the accused in the bomb blasts joined them. We are not against the Muslim community. But we are firmly opposed to those who oppose the national interest,” Satam claimed.
