Ahead of polls, Chavan effects major bureaucratic reshuffle

About 20 senior officials were assigned new postings. Earlier on February 3, Chavan had similarly effected transfers of 18 other senior officials.

Several departments, prominent among them being medical education department and school education department, got new heads and four districts, including the Mumbai, got new collectors as Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan Friday effected a major reshuffle of IAS and other senior government officers.

About 20 senior officials were assigned new postings. Earlier on February 3, Chavan had similarly effected transfers of 18 other senior officials.

Former Mumbai additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar will now head the Medical Education and Drugs Department. She has also been given an additional charge as secretary, information and public relations.

Former additional metropolitan commissioner Ashwini Bhide has been posted as the secretary of the School Education and Sports Department.

Chavan also transferred high-profile Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner (PCMC) Shrikar Pardeshi, who has been posted as Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps. The transfer evoked angry reactions from activists in PCMC since Pardeshi is seen as an efficient administrator.

Anil Diggikar, Secretary, Animal Dairy and Fisheries Department, will now head the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation as its Vice-Chairman. Bipin Shrimali is new CMD of Maharashtra State Electric Transmission Co. Ltd. Sunil Porwal will head the textiles department as its principal secretary.

Collectors
Shaila A, a 2003-batch IAS officer, will take over as Collector, Mumbai City, from Chandrasekhar Oak, a 2002-batch officer, who has now been posted as a Joint Commissioner in the Sales Tax department. Abhishek Krishna, Rubal Agarwal, and Radhakrishnan B were appointed as Collectors for Nagpur, Ahmednagar, and Nashik districts respectively.

Municipal Commissioners
Ranjeet Jadhav has replaced Pardeshi as PCMC civic commissioner. Vikas Deshmukh, a 1998-batch IAS officer, has been posted as Pune’s civic commissioner. Mahesh Kalyankar, who worked as private secretary to the minister of state (tribal development) Rajendra Gavit, has been posted as the Akola civic chief.
