Ahead of exam,16-yr-old boy ends life

Fearing he would fail in his examination,a 16-year-old boy Saturday allegedly committed suicide at his Jogeshwari home.

The deceased,Rajendra Prajapati,used to live with his parents in Jay Ambe Society in Anand Nagar area of Jogeshwari (West).

According to the police,Prajapati,a class VIII student of an Andheri-based school,went to his room around 11 pm Friday after dinner. At 8 am Saturday,when his mother went to check on him as he had not come for breakfast,she found his room locked. When she did not receive any response after knocking on his door several times,she peeked through the window in his room and found him hanging from ceiling fan following which she informed her husband and daughter.

The family,with the help of their neighbours,brought the body down and informed the police. Prajapati was rushed to the Cooper Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

In a statement to the Oshiwara police,Prajapati’s father stated his son was under pressure of not being able to perform well in his exams.

Vikrant Shirsat,sub-inspector at Oshiwara police station,said,“We did not find any suicide note at the spot. We do not suspect any foul play and have registered a case of accidental death.”
