Aditi,Jason,set pool on fire

KHAR Gymkhana’s Aditi Dhumatkar set the pool on fire with a record-breaking haul of six golds in the women’s category on the second day of the 30th Otters Club Open Swimming and Diving Gala at Bandra on Sunday.

KHAR Gymkhana’s Aditi Dhumatkar set the pool on fire with a record-breaking haul of six golds in the women’s category on the second day of the 30th Otters Club Open Swimming and Diving Gala at Bandra on Sunday. Aditi’s Khar Gymkhana teammate,Jason Smith,captured six golds,five of which were record-breaking efforts in the boys under-15 events. Overall,16 records were set in the meet,with Aditi and Jason accounting for 11 between them.

Aditi,who won the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke on the opening day,added 50m freestyle,100m butterfly,200m individual medley and 100m freestyle golds. Ironically in all these events,it was her Khar Gymkhana teammates Avantika Chavan and Rujuta Bhatt who tried their best but failed to match her speed. They had to settle for the silver and bronze medals respectively.

However,Vinit Mane,who had won three golds and a bronze in the sub-junior nationals at Rajkot recently,went one better with a haul of six golds,including record-breaking 50m freestyle.

The performances of Aditi,Jason and Vinit overshadowed the impressive performances of Aryan Makhija (4 golds),NSCI’s Vedant Khandeparkar (2 golds,1 silver),Arman Sikka (3 golds,2 bronze),Ronak Sawant (3 golds. 1 silver),Mustkan Tolani (2 golds,3 silver),Kiara Bangera (4 golds) and Aakanksha Vora ( 4 golds).

The diving event,which was introduced for the first time,saw Simran Rajani and Ilaria Sarup winning the girls under-15 and under-13 events respectively,while P M Hindu Bath’s Sayali Mahadik emerged best in the under-17 event. In the boys section,P M Hindu Bath’s Manan Vasant and Varun Purandare won the under-17 and under-15 events while CSMSS’s Satvik Gerri took the honours in the under-13 category.

Girls U-13: 1. Ilaria Sarup (Otters) -42.50 pts; 2. Arya Parmar (PMHB)- 37 pts; 3. Sanskruti Chourasia – 28 pts. U-15: 1. Simran Rajanai (Otters) – 53.50 pts.,2. Veda Patel (Otters) – 49 pts; 3. Ivana Pinto (Otters) – 37 pts. U-17: 1. Sayali Mahadik (PMHB) – 47 pts; 2. Yashka Sheth (PMHB) – 36 pts.,3. Zaara Arsiwala (Otters) – 36 pts. Boys U-13: 1. Satvik Gerri (CSMSS) – 38 pts; 2. Sahil Kudtarkar (PMHB)-47 pts; 3. Yashratna Surana (PMHB) & Anuj Shah (CSMSS) – 46 pts. U-15: Varun Purandare (PMHB) – 28 pts. U-17: 1. Manan Vasant (PMHB) – 38 pts; 2. Jainam Ranawat (CSMSS) – 46.50; 3. Om Desai (PMHB) – 45.50 pts.

Islam Gym enter final

Hosts Islam Gymkhana entered the finals of the 66th Salarjung Invitation Cricket Tournament,beating Police Gymkhana at the Islam Gymkhana ground.In the semifinals,Islam Gymkhna posted a target of 271 runs with Krishna Chawda and Prakash Patil scoring 84 and 47 respectively. Chasing the target,Police Gymkhana were bundled out for 249 with Samad Akhtar and Vikas Sharma picking 3 wickets each.
