Marathi actor Alka Punewar’s husband Sanjay Punewar told police Thursday that he registered a complaint of kidnapping and robbery in connection with Alka’s ‘disappearance’ as he feared not lodging a complaint would have made him look suspicious.

Alka (48) had gone missing on December 27 and her car was found in a 900-ft ravine in Khopoli three days later. On Tuesday, she was traced to Chennai with her boyfriend Alok Paliwai (24), and on Wednesday night, she told Kopri police that she had told Sanjay that she was going to live with her paramour on the night she left. She claimed she had staged her ‘accident’as she did not want her children to know of her decision.

On Thursday, Sanjay, Alka and Paliwal gave fresh statements and police said Sanjay confirmed the claims that Alka had made in her preliminary statement.

“Sanjay said he thought it would be prudent to register a complaint of kidnapping, as not doing so would have seemed even more suspicious,” said DCP (Zone V) Balasaheb Patil.
