Television actor Ajaz Khan was arrested on Tuesday morning from Belapur on charges of carrying drugs. The anti-narcotics squad of the Navi Mumbai police crime branch arrested the actor from a luxury hotel with eight tablets of Ecstasy. Crime branch officials said the actor was alone in his room at the hotel when he was arrested.
“Following a tip-off, we raided his room… he had in his possession eight tablets of MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine), also known as Ecstasy. We seized the contraband and two mobile phones he had on him,” said an officer from the crime branch.
“We are not sure if he had consumed any of the pills. We are investigating from where he got the drugs, if all the tablets were meant for consumption and if he had brought them for someone,” the officer added.
Khan has been booked under Section 8-c (produce, manufacture, possess, sell, purchase, transport, warehouse, use, consume, import inter-state, export inter-state, import into India, export from India or tranship any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance), 22-b (punishment for contravention in relation to psychotropic substances) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
“We have presented him before the court, which remanded him to police custody till October 25,” said an officer.
Khan has worked in a few Bollywood films and television serials. In 2016, he was arrested for sending obscene photos and abusive messages to a 36-year-old hair stylist. He was later released on bail
