Actor Inder Kumar, who was arrested Friday for allegedly raping and assaulting a 23-year-old aspiring model at his Versova residence, was Saturday was produced before the the metropolitan magistrate’s court in Andheri, which remanded him to police custody till April 30.
Meanwhile, in order to establish Kumar’s movements on the day of the alleged crime, the Versova police are examining the CCTV footage of the building in Seven Bungalows in Andheri where he lived.
Kumar, who has acted in several Hindi movies and television serials, is accused of having sexually exploited as well as assaulting the woman, who finally approached the police on Friday.
The police arrested Kumar on the same day. The victim is currently admitted to the Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle.
“We have taken a lot of CCTV footage from the building where Kumar stays and are scanning it. This will help us to properly establish his movements on Thursday, so that we can compare them with the statement given by the victim,” said senior police inspector Harishchandra Parmale, Versova police station.
The victim, in her statement, has told the police that Kumar took her to his residence where he forced himself on her and also assaulted her with his bare hands as well as with objects like a broken beer bottle and a fork, inflicting several wounds on her body. “The victim has undergone medical examination and has several injuries which are consistent with the assault that she has described. We are making further inquiries into the case,” Parmale added.
Kumar has been charged with rape, assault and criminal intimidation under sections of the Indian Penal Code. He is currently being held in the lock-up at the Andheri police station. The police said he was “being cooperative” with their probe.
