Mumbai police crime branch officers interrogating Chandrabhan Sanap, arrested for the murder of TCS techie Esther Anuhya, claim that he is misleading the police by altering his statements. While Sanap had earlier told the police that he had thrown Esther’s laptop from a moving train, he has now allegedly claimed that he disposed of it in a forested area.
An officer said, “ The accused has now started to change his statements on the additional evidence we are looking for. Chandrabhan had taken away Esther’s back pack and laptop. Earlier, he said he threw the laptop from a train while returning from Nashik to Mumbai on January 7. However, now he claims that he threw the laptop in some forested area, and not from the train.”
The investigating team is now planning to take Sanap to the new spot stated by him, in a bid to locate the laptop.
“Sanap also claims that he has forgotten where he dumped the laptop. The additional evidence of the laptop is crucial to putting up a watertight case against Sanap before a court”, said the officer.
Sanap had allegedly earlier told the police that he managed to start the laptop after several attempts, and its web camera was accidentally switched on. Sanap had claimed that he could not understand why his image was seen on the screen of the laptop. In panic, he closed the screen and threw the laptop from the train somewhere, he had reportedly said.
