THE ANTI-CORRUPTION Bureau (ACB) Wednesday trapped a peon employed with the water department of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) while allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 to sanction a new water connection. The 48-year-old complainant approached the ACB officials who laid a trap and arrested accused Rajesh Jadhav. An officer said the complainant had given an application to the TMC for a water connection a few months back on behalf of his friend who had recently purchased a house.
Last week, he went to the TMC water department office at Uthalsar in Thane to check on the status of the application. Jadhav, 43, who is a peon in the department told him that till the time he did not pay a bribe of Rs 10,000, the new water connection would not be sanctioned.
The complainant approached the ACB officials, on whose instructions he told Jadhav that he was willing to pay Rs 5,000.
Accordingly, on Wednesday, around 1 pm, as Jadhav was receiving the bribe amount, ACB officials caught him red-handed and placed him under formal arrest.
