Aadhaar, APAAR IDs made must for candidates registering for CET

This move is to streamline academic services, admissions and making education related government schemes more accessible.

Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has declared that Aadhaar and APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) IDs will be mandatory for all candidates registering for any CET in 2026. The CET Cell has issued public notice in this regard to ensure that candidates are ready with these documents by the time they have to apply for admission.

The public notice issued by the CET Cell, states, “The online application forms for the CETs for the academic year 2026-27 will be made available on the official website of the CET Cell. The CET Cell intends to make Aadhaar and APAAR mandatory for all candidates registering for the CET 2026.” The notice further provides a list of documents required if any candidate intends to apply for any CET.

While candidates have to generate APAAR ID, they also have to ensure that information on the Aadhaar card—such as the candidate’s name, date of birth as per the Class 10 certificate, latest photograph, address, father’s name, and a mobile number linked to Aadhaar—must be correct and active.

Additionally, candidates with disabilities will be required to upload a disability certificate issued by a competent authority or a Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card. Whereas Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates who are eligible to opt for scribes must submit details of two scribes at the time of online application.

The State CET Cell conducts online common entrance examinations for admission to a total of 20 different professional undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across six disciplines of higher education – Technical, Medical, AYUSH, Agricultural, Traditional and Fine Arts Education. CET Cell also implements a centralised admission process for 73 courses. This year nearly 14lakh students participated in admissions to various courses.

Earlier this month, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education had declared that students appearing for board examinations – Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) – will be required to have an APAAR ID.

Apart from allowing access to students to their digital marksheets, this move according to the state board is to streamline academic services, admissions and making education related government schemes more accessible.
