A separate ticketing counter for women commuters will be started at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus from Tuesday. While an exact estimate of the women travelling on Central and Western Railway is not known as gender of the passenger is not mentioned on suburban tickets, railway authorities estimate 33 per cent of the commuters on locals are women.
Atul Rane,Chief Public Relations Officer,CR,said,Given the large number of women commuters,we have decided to dedicate a separate window at CST for them on an experimental basis. Based on the result,we will take a decision on whether a similar arrangement can be made at other stations.
Rane said a separate ticketing window for women commuters had been a long-pending demand from commuter groups.
A ticket booking window near the coin-operated Automatic Ticket Vending Machine in the suburban ticket booking area at CST has been designated from 7 am to 2 pm every day for women commuters. Western Railway had already started separate ticketing windows at Churchgate,Andheri and Borivali stations in 2012. WR had taken a decision to dedicate one counter at railway stations where there are at least 10 ticket booking windows each.
