Seven seriously injured victims of the Expressway accident remained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Panvels Panacea Hospital on Monday,some unaware that they had lost at least one family member.
While their condition was described by doctors as stable,hospital sources said most of these patients had lost at least one family member. Relatives of the patients came in the morning just to admit them and then rushed to handle funeral arrangements of other family members, said a hospital official.
As many as 14 injured persons were brought to Panacea Hospital around 2 am on Monday. Seven of them had suffered minor bruises and fractures and were discharged from the hospital within a few hours. Seven others were admitted to the ICU.
The patients have suffered multiple fractures on the abdomen,arms and back. Most of them will require selective surgery and will probably be in the hospital for the next two days. However,they are all stable now, said Dr Subhash Singh,orthopaedic surgeon at the hospital.
A 35-year-old lady is among the patients admitted to the ICU.
The others are all children aged between six and ten years. The youngest among them is a two-year-old boy,who has suffered a fracture on his arm.
