A 50-Year-old unemployed man was arrested by the Deonar police on Tuesday for allegedly raping and getting a 14-year-old girl pregnant. The accused,Ramesh Davle, has been remanded in police custody till February 6.

Officers investigating the case said the rape took place last September when Davle’s wife had gone to her native place. “Davle is the victim’s neighbour. His wife had gone to her native place in September last year when Davle called the victim to his house and raped her. He also warned her of dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident,” said senior police inspector Pralhad Panaskar of Deonar police station.

“Her parents observed a change in her behaviour and asked her what had happened. They suspected something was wrong and took her for a medical test. The tests showed she was four months’ pregnant. Her parents then asked her what had happened and she narrated the incident. A case was registered,” said Panaskar.

Davle has been booked under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint),376 (rape) and 506-2 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

“Our investigations revealed that Davle and the victim’s family shared a good rapport. That is how he was able to get the victim to his house,” Panaskar said. The victim’s father is a painter and she resides with her parents and two siblings. Davle has a son. “We have asked for medical reports in the case,” he added.
