50 musicians to be awarded with fellowship tomorrow

Instituted by the Shanmukhananda Sabha in 2015, the awards have been conferred upon 181 young musicians till date, in a bid to encourage them in their fields.

As many as 50 young musicians from across India are set to be awarded with “Sri Shanmukhananda Bharat Ratna Dr. MS Subbulakshmi fellowship in Music” at King Circle’s 70-year-old Shanmukhananda Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Auditorium Saturday.

As part of the fellowship, each budding musician is slated to be rewarded with an annual grant of Rs 1 lakh for a period of three years in the field of Carnatic vocal, Hindustani vocal, Mrudangam, Nadaswaram, Veena, Sitar, Mandolin, Ghatam, Flute, Tabla and violin.
