Nearly 40 stranded residents were rescued safely after a level-one blaze broke out at a high-rise in Andheri on Thursday. Officials maintained that no injuries were reported in the blaze.

The incident was reported at 10.05 am on Thursday at the Sorrento Tower situated along Veera Desai Road in Andheri West. The blaze was declared level-one at 10.20 am by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire spread throughout the building with the electrical wiring, installation and electric shaft getting charred between the 10th and 21st floors, while objects like routers, shoe racks, and wooden furniture were impacted across various floors of the ground plus 23-storey residential building.

Owing to the blaze, the entire building was covered with smoke, with residents trapped on different floors of the building. In the aftermath of the blaze, Mumbai Fire Brigade mobilised its firemen while officials from the police, BMC ward office, as well as the electricity distribution company were also pressed to aid in the firefighting operations.

Nearly 40 people who convened near the refuge area on the 16th floor were rescued safely through the staircase. Meanwhile, at least two men and one woman were rescued safely from a flat situated on the 15th floor using the breathing apparatus set.

The blaze was doused by 11.37 am on Thursday.
