Two men were arrested by the Mumbai Police on Saturday on the charges of raping and murdering a four-year-old girl in Powai. The minor went missing for nearly 62 hours and was found dead less than 150 metres from the Tungagaon police chowky on Wednesday.
The decomposed body of the victim was found unclad with her clothes lying beside it inside a four-feet deep pit inside a private property off Saki Vihar Road, the police said.
The accused have been identified as Samsher Khan (25) and Ravi Solanki (28), who were picked up by the police from their residences in Chembur and Tunga village respectively.

“The locals had spotted both the accused near the minor’s residence on the night of the incident. The duo was later captured on CCTV cameras in the area, where the victim’s body was found,” said Vinay Deshmukh, zonal deputy commissioner of police.
“Medical examination reports revealed that the minor was raped. The accused claimed they committed the crime under the influence of drugs. The cause of the girl’s death is still not clear,” added the officer.
“However, after being kidnapped from near her home on March 6, she was killed by the duo only moments after she was sexually assaulted. Her body was found three days later during a combing operation conducted by the local police,” Deshmukh said.
Investigators said that nearly 60 people were inquired in connection with the case, including a few locals who saw the duo “lurking around” the the victim’s residence. “Solanki resides near the the accused’s residence. He was aware that the minor lived with her grandparents and that her mother and father were away in Amravati for their respective trainings in police and railways since December,” said a police officer attached with
Powai police. “On Wednesday, while the victim was playing outside her home, the duo allegedly took her away by offering her a chocolate. Carrying the girl, the duo reached a private property and trespassed it by going below the barricade around it,” the officer added.
Senior police officers have also said that the inquiry initiated on Wednesday to find if there was “any drawback” on behalf of the beat officers, who were patrolling on the other side of the road from where the body was recovered, is still underway.
