Greed for property had driven Vanita Motwani,26,the third wife of businessman Sunil Darekar to plot the murder of his second wife Sushma,40,and she had roped in Darekars driver to carry out the crime after leading him on to believe she was having an affair with him, police investigations have revealed.
Police said Vanita has confessed to coercing driver Pravin Kagze,30,to execute the murder after she learnt Sunil was about to transfer his property to Sushma. Darekar was spared as Vanita wanted him to transfer his property and assets in her name, police said.
Vanita, who had been working for three years at Sunils firm in Pune that handles billboards on roads in Mumbai and Pune, had married him a year ago,and it was only six months ago that she learnt he was already twice-married,police said. Police said Pravin had made several calls to Vanita on the day of the murder, before and after the crime. They said it was cold blooded murder as Pravin had invited himself to lunch at Sushmas Oshiwara apartment, and had spent time there before killing her. We were suspicious as Pravin had lunch at Sushmas place. His phone records showed he had constantly communicated to Vanita since afternoon. We called Vanita for inquiry, said an officer from Oshiwara police station, who did not wish to be named.
Vanita allegedly made Pravin believe he was her boyfriend. The police said she later threatened and coerced him to execute the murder.
Vanita told us she wanted her husbands office in Pune and his three flats in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. These were properties where his wives stayed separately. She says she was aware that the Oshiwara house was in the name of Sushma. Sunil wanted their Koparkhairane apartment, where Vanita stayed, also to be transferred to Sushma, said sub-inspector Ravindra Patil, the investigating officer from Oshiwara police station.
This allegedly prompted Vanita to eliminate Sushma. To execute the plot,Vanita gave Pravin the impression of having an affair with him, said Patil.
Sushma was found murdered in her Oshiwara residence on April 10. Pravin was allegedly assisted by his cousin Nilesh in the murder. The accused allegedly set the house on fire to make it appear Sushma had died of burns.
