37° Celsius in Mumbai: Second warmest October day since 2019

The IMD’s coastal observatory at Colaba also recorded the highest October day temperature in the last five years at 35.6 degrees Celsius, which was 2.4 degrees Celsius above normal.

Mumbai on Friday recorded the second warmest October day since 2019 as the India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Santacruze observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius, which was 3.3 degrees Celsius above normal.

The IMD’s coastal observatory at Colaba also recorded the highest October day temperature in the last five years at 35.6 degrees Celsius, which was 2.4 degrees Celsius above normal. On October 16, Colaba recorded a day temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, which was the highest day temperature recorded since 2020.

On October 22, 2019, the Santacruze observatory recorded a day temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius, which is the highest in the last seven years. IMD data shows the all-time highest day temperature recorded at Santacruze was on October 17, 2015, at 38.6 degrees Celsius.

Over the past one week, Mumbai has been experiencing hot and humid days. Weather officials said the presence of moisture in the air, which has led to an increase in humidity levels, has pushed up temperatures.

Meanwhile, in its five-day forecast, the IMD has dry weather conditions will continue in Mumbai. The weather bureau has forecast light rain and thundershowers in Thane on Sunday. A yellow alert has been issued for Raigad district, which will continue to receive moderate to heavy rainfall.
