The accused, Vikash Shah, 26, is still at large and police are searching for him, a police officer said. A police team from Gujarat has also reached Mumbai.
The deceased has been identified as Akash Shah (3) alias Aarav.
His mother, Durgawati Kumari Rajendra Shah, had lodged a missing complaint at the Amroli police station in Surat on Friday evening. She is a native of Bihar and lives in Surat. Besides Akash, she has two more children, an eight-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son. Her husband lives in Dubai and works in a private firm.
A senior Government Railway Police (GRP) officer said, “The body was found by a cleaner in one of the toilets of the air-conditioned coach number B-2 of Kushinagar Express. The GRP was alerted, and a police team reached the crime scene.”
According to Surat police, Durgawati, in her complaint, said that on August 21, she left her house with two elder children to drop them at school, leaving behind Akash with her elder sister Rabdi Kumari Shah and her son Vikash Shah. When Durgawati returned home, she found Aarav and Vikash missing.
After checking CCTV cameras, Amroli police had confirmed that Vikash took a train with the boy from the Surat railway station. Amroli police had on Friday night lodged an abduction case against Vikash, who also took Durgawati’s mobile phone from her house.
Amroli Police Inspector J B Vanar said, “We kept the mobile phone of Durgawati under surveillance and found that it was in Mumbai. We sent our team to Mumbai on Friday evening. On Saturday, early morning, the body of Akash was found.”
He added, “On Saturday morning, Durgawati reached Mumbai and confirmed the body of her son Aarav. The body was handed over to her after the postmortem on Saturday afternoon. Once we get papers from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus GRP officials, we will register a murder case.”
Vanar added, “Vikash is still on the run. His father stays in Nasik, so we have sent our team there too. Vikash, with her mother Rabdi Shah, came to Surat seven days ago from Siwan in Bihar.”
