The Nehru Nagar police arrested a supervisor employed with a contractor’s company for alleged negligence after three of a family injured themselves as the scooter that they were riding fell into a trench that the company had dug.
The police have identified the accused as Mukesh Mathur, 48, who is directly responsible for the safety measures taken at the site of the operations. The incident occurred in front of Gate I of the Thakkar Bappa colony in Nehru Nagar, Kurla (E).
According to the police, the complainant, Santosh Landage 44, was returning home with his wife Saraswati and their ten-year-old son.
“The complainant in his statement has said that he is a Nehru Nagar resident and works in a private company. That Wednesday night, he didn’t see the trench and went straight into it with his two-wheeler and his family,” said a police officer.
Police said that the boy was bleeding from his hands and legs and had sustained a few cuts to his chin, while his parents suffered multiple injuries. “After registering the complaint the same night, we arrested the supervisor in-charge Mathur for the incident on Friday.
The contractors are believed to have not been working for a couple of days and had not put any safety tape, which is mandatory in such scenarios. The trench was at least one and a half feet deep,” said the officer.
The trenching was done for laying optical fibre cables across the city to set up 4G mobile towers.
