A 28-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by drowning and was found at Worli Seaface, behind INS Trata Saturday evening, police said.
The deceased,Kalpesh Raut,an advertising agency employee, sent a voice message to his older brother Rakesh hours before allegedly killing himself, police said. A case of accidental death has been registered. In the message,Kalpesh said he was going to commit suicide of his own will and did not hold anyone responsible, said sub-inspector Uttam Bhapkar.
Police said Kalpesh lived with his aunt Suhasisni and grandmother in Chinchpokhli(West) and would get home late every night after drinking with friends. This led to arguments with Suhasini. She would tell him to come home earlier, but he would always reach past 11 pm, said Bhapkar.
On Friday night,Kalpesh reached home at 11 pm and was reprimanded by Suhasini, after which he walked out of the house at 11.30 pm,police said.
He sent Rakesh the message at 1.30 am Saturday and switched off his phone. The family went to Worli police station, but they were unable to locate him.
At 4 pm Saturday,a patrolling car received information that a mans body had been found on the rocks behind INS Trata compound. The body was sent to Poddar Hospital in Worli, where Kalpesh was declared dead.
After examining his cellphone, police inserted the SIM card into another phone and immediately received a call from Rakesh. A postmortem conducted at Nair Hospital concluded the cause of death as asphyxia due to drowning.
We have spoken to security personnel at Bandra-Worli Sea Link and they said no one walked up there on Saturday. The family said they doesnt suspect anyone, Bhapkar said.
