Chetansinh Chaudhary, accused of killing four people on a Jaipur-Mumbai train in 2023.
The sessions court was informed that dismissed RPF constable Chetansinh Choudhary, needs another month of treatment before a report can be submitted about his mental health condition.
The District Mental Health Review Board, Thane, on Monday submitted a report to the sessions court conducting the trial against Choudhary, for allegedly murdering his senior and three passengers on a train on July 31, 2023, while on duty.
The Board has said that Choudhary was brought to the Thane mental hospital on February 20 and is under observation for psychosis. In January, the court had directed him to be shifted from Akola jail to the hospital for a medical examination after a local hospital in Nagpur recommended it citing his behaviour.
The Board has said that he is under treatment and is undergoing various investigations by the concerned doctors. The Board has said that he will need to be treated and observed for another month, following which a detailed report will be submitted.
After the incident, Choudhary’s family claimed that was suffering from mental health issues, while the police chargesheeted him on finding no such evidence. The trial in the case is underway but during the last hearing held earlier this month, the examination of a witness was put on hold at the request of Choudhary’s lawyer who said that it should not be done in his absence.
Choudhary was arrested on July 31, 2023, for allegedly gunning down his senior colleague, assistant sub-inspector Tikaram Meena, and three Muslim passengers on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express.
