Authorities suspect the blaze might have occured due to a malfunction in the compressor.

FireFire officials said the blaze broke out in the electrical duct of the hospital's centralised air-conditioning (AC) system.

Four people, including two patients, sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out at a private hospital in Kandivali (west) on Saturday afternoon. Among the two others who were injured in the incident were two staffers of the hospital, said fire officials.

According to officials from Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the incident was reported around 1.48pm on Saturday. The hospital is located within the periphery of a residential society and it occupies four storeys of a 30-storey building.

Fire officials said the blaze broke out in the electrical duct of the hospital’s centralised air-conditioning (AC) system. Authorities suspect the blaze might have occured due to a malfunction in the compressor.

According to officials, Swadhin Mukhi (56) suffered 40% burn injury, Rajdeo (35) received 15% burn injury. Two other victims — Narendra Murya (45) and Sunil (35)–suffered superficial burns.

“The victims, who sustained injuries, were very close to the origin of the blaze, due to which one of them suffered a serious injury,” said an official. The victims are being treated in the same hospital and are currently stable.

“The blaze broke out on the rear side, due to which it could not spread…occupants sensed the fire and exited from the main entry point,” added the fire official. The blaze was put out by around 2pm.
